Servant Leadership
To our dear son/daughter of Maara Constituency,
We wish to humbly and formally inform you that as a team of like minded people with Maara interests at heart, we have decided to present our very own SAMMY KAMUNDI for election to the position of "A SERVANT LEADER" (MP) for Maara constituency in the coming 2022 general elections.
You are a real warrior and stakeholder in regard to maara constituency affairs. You are actually a true son/daughter of our Maara family. Therefore, in many matters pertaining Maara constituency, we believe your ideas, counsel, input, et al, can sway the tide and help us deliver Maara to the best docking terminal. From the jaws of neglect to that land of honey and prosperity.
It's with this in mind that we kindly indulge your every support for this position of servant leadership. We particularly indulge your prayers in this humble journey of service. Our biggest prayer is that we shall walk this journey together, with the aim of serving Maara as a team thereafter.
With you and others from Maara, we shall form a team of like minded people to help identify and address Maara problems, challenges and aspirations in their uniqueness in all the 5 wards (Mitheru, Muthambi, Chogoria, Ganga and Mwimbi) at the sub-location levels.
Kindly talk to your people on our behalf, friends, relatives, neighbours, colleagues, like minded people etc. Sell this idea with the hope of liberating Maara from the jaws of neglect, underdevelopment, and misplaced priorities.
We plan to work as a team, solving our local problems not as we see and think as technocrats, but from the perspective of what the electorate wants. We shall solve their problems, not ours. We also plan to avoid the tradition of one man show when it comes to handling maara issues, be it development, social or lobbying for the national cake.
We must move bega kwa bega, as equals, NOT Sammy mbele wengine nyuma wakifuata. Site lazima tutembee pamoja
Just to quote Chinua Achebe,
"If you don't like someone's story, write your own."
Chinua Achebe
(We surely don't like Maara's story so far. We therefore must write our own GOOD story for Maara. I beg you to be with us in this my dear comrades)
The stories we have so far about the state of Maara constituency affairs are reasonably worrying:
1. CDF mismanagement:
Available figures and data on mismanagement are alarming and blinding. We receive about 110M per year!. In 5yrs, that tranlates to 550M. Considering that other resources can be achieved through reasonable team lobbying. That's enough money to transform the entire Maara remarkably. If only passion and due diligent is put in place, miracles would have happened in Maara so far.
2. Legislative representation:
We are sure not a single bill or motion has emanated from maara constituency since its inception. Why?...
3. Development records:
We are sure apart from Muringa Banana project, which is yet to be completed in 15yrs, no other tangible project is available within our constituency
For this and other many reasons,
WE MUST WRITE OUR OWN GOOD STORY, BECAUSE I BELIEVE THE CURRENT STORY IS NOT LIKEABLE TO YOU AND ME
AND HOW DO WE DO THIS?
Again, to quote the great writer Chinua Achebe,
"While we do our good works let us not forget that the real solution lies in a world in which charity will have become unnecessary"
Chinua Achebe
Therefore, handouts to benefit a selected few at the expense of major/minor development activities to benefit us a whole community must be a thing of the past in our Maara constituency. Unless of course we are giving to the poor and our wanting neighbours.
True, as Achebe says, we must strive to end the culture of handouts by leaders to our constituents.
The secret lies in empowering the handouts seekers to depend on themselves. Not on the SELECTIVE MERCY of our leadership.
Things to do with donations to bribe voters must be a thing of the past. That way, we shall be in a position to put our leaders to task, since they never bought us. This shall be realised because we made them and own them, not because they bribed, manipulated, forced or even benefited us with tokens and false promises..
You, me and others must educate that old man/woman in our village, that youth that is boiling with energy and ideas. To know that a leader is not a ruler, he is not a Lord but a SERVANT given a job by the voter meant to serve him/her the way we feel best and want.
He is not there to give give us errands to run. We placed him their to receive instructions from us. It is us who know what we want. His task/Terms of Reference (TOR) is to lead as a team towards solving OUR own problems as we know them, not as he thinks. He is just a captain of our team. We should play ball together in the same league.
For this and many other reasons, we humbly request you to join and support us in this noble idea of "kueneza injili" ya kubadilisha maneno Maara. This change must not only be change, it MUST be +VE change.
In Particular, kindly put us in your daily prayers and/or devotions. We particularly request that your prayers be specific that when, and if we get this, we shall always remember to serve our people, that power shall never ever get into our head, that greed should not tempt us to misuse what is meant for the populace. That we shall always remain true to what we are, a group of humble servants of the people. Led by one of us.
We pray that things should never be the same anymore!!
Thank you and be blessed
Your humble servants,
Team Sammy
